blogging gobbledygook and such

with blog buddies. When I first met Lovelyloey, we went to Macau Tower among other places. Last month, I met Dave at Kuala Lumpur Tower. I only met him briefly because I had to leave at the time, so I left the story aside until today when we arranged to meet for lunch at a mall in KL.

I actually know him prior to becoming blog buddies, as he appeared in a local TV show and let’s just keep it at that, as I don’t think it was one of his prouder moments in life. šŸ˜› Later, I stumbled upon his blog and also discovered that he was doing his Masters at where I was studying in college, in the same faculty. I saw him a few times in campus, but I always turned the other way because I’m shy like that. šŸ˜³ (Really I am!) He left for Australia soon after to do his PhD and he’ll be returning to Malaysia around 2010 to teach at my alma mater and be a full-fledged Doctor of Philosophy. He’ll be here until Christmas for a little break and visit back home.

So, lunch with Dave. He was very friendly, pretty much like how he is in his blog. He’s open about himself, talks about what he does and what he’ll be doing, unlike some guys I know who are quite reticent. We mostly talked about my alma mater, since he is in the academia there and I know most of the people there still.

If I may compare my meeting with Lovelyloey and Dave, the former would feel more like how I imagine blog buddies meeting for the first time would be like; the latter, for some reason it felt like I was meeting a very nice cousin, lol. Perhaps it’s because he seems more comfortable than I was – then again, I’m always awkward around new people, even people who are my blog buddies. 9 was right – I should meet more people.

Between Macau Tower and KL Tower, I preferred the former much more. The view was amazing there, even though it’s the tenth tallest tower in the world, compared to KL Tower being the fourth tallest. Size doesn’t matter! Hehe.

What Macau Tower didn’t have, though, is an interactive tour around the tower. You can request for one of this thingamajigs and go around the tower, starting from point no. 1 (there are marked points for you to follow the interactive video as you make your way around the tower). It was very useful in pointing out landmarks and tourist spots from the top of the tower.

I want to meet more blog buddies! (Despite my apprehensiveness.)

  1. Meet me!

sulz: i want to, and i will! i won’t die in peace if i don’t meet you. šŸ˜€

  2. Hi Sulz,
We would meet up, when I am down in Feb’09. Keep in touch. Don’t worry, I do understand the apprehensiveness in meeting people for the first time, face-to-face. Can’t wait to meet every one, since this would be my first visit back home since mid-2006. Sigh! How I miss my families, friends and Malaysia šŸ˜€ Nothing like home!

So sad about the Bkt Antarabangsa tragedy! You remember many years ago? Tragedies all over šŸ˜¦

p/s: Sulz please update your blogroll and/or feed reader. I have finally plunged for WordPress šŸ˜€

sulz: ooh, is that you in your avatar? makes finding you in person a bit easier now, hehe. šŸ˜› i’ve been overseas for a month and i was homesick like mad! can’t imagine being in your shoes, having been away for years!

yeah, dee and i watched the midnight news to hear about the latest, and i read some stories online as well. šŸ˜¦ one man called his son’s cell phone to search for him and found the son holding his phone, dead. then there was also the small landslide at jalan semantan, next to cimb bank. sigh…

oh, awesome! you made the rightest choice. šŸ˜‰

  3. Sigh! I never knew about the Jln Semantan slide. My last job in Msia was located on Jln Semantan. I need to contact my friends and colleagues to make sure they are well…Sad, very sad about the son dead holding the cell phone šŸ˜¦

Yes, I am the one in the avatar… Thanks and take care!

sulz: yeah, just happened last friday before this major one. nobody was hurt but about half a dozen cars were wrecked from that slide because the slide happened in an open car park next to the cimb building. šŸ˜¦ the rainy season this year has been causing a lot of havoc! horrific traffic jams, landslides… even where i live is not spared, though nothing life-threatening so far, thank goodness.

    you too! šŸ™‚

    HA! Towers!
There aren’t any towers in Singapore. Nothing too high or spectacular, hmmm. None I can recall anyway.
Yeah, meeting you was a bit awkward for a bit la, but not as bad as we imagined, right? šŸ˜›

sulz: but the next time i meet you, it won’t be our first time anymore so no towers never mind. šŸ˜€ yeah true, i think the shopping helped a lot! i really went crazy at the shops in macau tower, huh? šŸ˜†

  5. You have the pretty holiday theme up now! I like it. šŸ™‚ Sounds like you had a good time with “Cousin Dave”. I’m really glad you know each other because it seems like he’s been wanting to meet you for a long time. Huh, towers! Interesting that image keeps coming up for you & blog peeps. It makes me think of the Tower card in the Tarot deck, a very important card regarding time of change! šŸ˜‰ http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/basics/tower.shtml

sulz: thanks, i feel festive! šŸ™‚ i didn’t know you have knowledge about tarot – you know a little about everything, it seems! the tarot meaning sounds scary, but in context of my blog buddies it’s not all that bad. i’m sure i’ll loosen up the more i meet them. šŸ™‚

  6. Hey new theme! šŸ™‚ Come over to India, we will have a blogger’s meet. Towers…got to figure out; nothing great in the city I live in. The beach is good šŸ˜‰
Or we can meet up if A & I make it to your part of the world šŸ˜‰ some day! šŸ˜€
Would be good to meet you in person. We had one of the bloggers meet…guess what? It felt like we all knew each other for ages right from the first meet. Was fun!

sulz: hehe, yup! falalalala… šŸ˜€ you had a blogger’s meet there? how come you didn’t write about it, that would be interesting to read! oh, i’ll be very nervous and awkward each time i meet any blog buddy. šŸ˜¦ maybe less so the more i do it?

  7. awww… such nice words about me šŸ˜›

sulz: well, you are… cousin dave. your new nickname, haha!

  8. Festive theme is festive! That’s so cool! šŸ™‚

Your meeting with Dave sounds nice. I’ve never met up with a blog friend – I guess that must be because there aren’t any really big towers in England! We do have the tallest structure in Europe, but it’s a radio mast and therefore not climbable, sadly.

sulz: thanks, i love it too! too bad i can only use it at this time of the year, because the appearance is very reader-friendly.

haha, you don’t have to meet at the big ben for every new blog buddy you meet in person. šŸ˜‰ but if i have the chance to meet you i’d love for our meeting point to be there!

  9. Festive theme but little too bright! šŸ™‚ Plus left side widgets not good šŸ™‚
I too am quite shy and don’t know if I would ever attend a bloggers meet in my life.

sulz: is it? but i like it, nice change. just for the season. šŸ™‚ but you’re a lecturer! you meet students all the time, a blogger’s meet may be a lot like that. šŸ˜€

  10. lucky you! sorry for not commenting for past few days but i constantly read your post……..
can very well understand such apprehensions but you see thats what the fun part is. you talk to blogging friend on and on but really dont know what to talk about when you actually meet them! šŸ˜›
and sulz the ind f person you look like on blog , it seems you have lot to say , so didnt really expect you to keep quite šŸ˜†

sulz: hey don’t apologise for being busy! i’m happy to hear you read it already. šŸ™‚ and likewise for me!

exactly! i think next time i’ll plan an activity when i meet a blog buddy. that way, if we have nothing to talk about we can talk about the activity, lol.

well, it depends. i can either clam up really bad, or get into verbal diarrhoea. both of which not good. šŸ‘æ

  11. We have had quite a few since the first one actually. As I said, we all clicked pretty well. Last we went bowling. One of the bloggers always writes something, hence I did not šŸ˜€ They all got to meet A too šŸ™‚ Now face the problem of them using the name instead of the letter on comments to posts! lol!

sulz: that sounds really nice… you deserve some great time out and what better way than with blog buddies! šŸ™‚

I like your theme!!! Happy Christmas šŸ˜€

hahaha…now you got Ish as your son & Dave as your cousin! I wonder who’s gonna be your next relative in here šŸ˜›

sulz: thanks, me too! šŸ˜€ happy christmas to you too. oh, haha, now that you pointed out… i want a ‘husband’ next.
